Five Points
By Levi Andrew Noe
The man in the cowboy hat
and dazzling cowboy shirt
paces the sidewalk across the street
from the bearded man in a mini-skirt
who walks past the market
of whole foods and healers
in the convergence of asphalt
where, nightly, the drunks come to drown,
the pimps come to push, and the pushers
come to poison the veins.
In a gentrified neighborhood where
gangs have been bangin’ for years
and business is booming for entrepreneurs
I sit behind my table of natural
health and body care products, and
self-published children’s books
wondering how this possibly all fits
and if there’s any way ever
to reconcile our differences.
