‘kiss my faces, some turn’
RAFAEL VILLANUEVA
i: empty picture frames,
hanging crooked portals
in a shape
that breathes like an accordion-
panels knock rain drops
on a honda hood.
peaceful clanging as I walk,
a sound only I can hear
only
against a chanting audience-
new years bounce,
bouncing frames in a slowing strobe
countdown-
to a kiss painted cheek
portrait over lips calling bodies.
single drop, orchid tip
oil to waxing memories,
bass in successive frames.
the dj is a god pushing seasons
across my ancient expressions,
in this half gringo rendition,
shaking with the heat he left
cracking paint plaster
over an orchid bloom

Rafael Villanueva is a multidisciplinary artist. Following graduation from GSU in Atlanta with an English degree and poetry concentration, Rafael moved to New Orleans in order to explore and have an adventure. “My work blends influences from several artistic mediums as they relate to the innate improvisation in life.” — The artistry navigates forms, applying them personally as though the moment can be possibly prescribed contrary to our nature as infinite beings. — “I have been exploring this kind of thing. Entertaining structure and then experimenting with how it bends and breaks.”
