Working in retail can lead to many things, especially when you find yourself in management. For Wendy Easley, it paired with her creative endeavors for her kids and family to give way to her creations on North Texas Treasures. From wine glasses to totes to customizable tees, we talked to Wendy about all of that and then some.
Kendra: You deal with customizable gifts and tees. What made you want to go that route in terms of design?
Wendy Easley: When I bought my first vinyl cutter I got it to be creative and put cute designs on things for our new house. When I started selling things on my Etsy shop, I was only working on certain items like mugs, glass cutting boards and then someone asked if I could create a design on a shirt and it was something I was planning to do so I tried that out and found that I enjoyed putting designs on shirts much more than on other items.
Kendra: I can imagine summertime is your busiest time of year with graduations and weddings. What other major moments do you feel should be celebrated with a custom tee that perhaps people overlook at times?
Wendy Easley: Mother’s day and Easter are the two busiest before we get to Christmas in July. Graduation has been down a little from last year, but weddings are indeed very strong at this time. Surprisingly Independence day is one not many people get a custom tee for. We get a few requests, but far less than anticipated.
Kendra: It’s obvious that you represent Texas. Are you a native, and how does Texas play a role in how you operate?
Wendy Easley: My husband is a native, I am a transplat, but I did move here with my parents at a very young age so I feel Texan at heart. My overall designs for the shop look, the mock up backgrounds and many of the non holiday designs I try to infuse some Texas feel to them. Plus, we do our very best to be as courteous and helpful to everyone, just like most native born Texans!
Kendra: Can you tell the people what they can expect from North Texas Treasures in the coming months? New items?
Wendy Easley: In the coming months we will start getting our Christmas listings rolling. We have some fun new ornament designs that should be as popular as our normal ones have been in the past. We will also have some great Raglan shirt designs that will be great for family Christmas sets so people can make some memorable Christmas Card photos!
