Capturing the beauty in the city center of Brazil is something many in photography dream about. Saving up and buying a ticket just to snap the scenes and the locals who call it home. For the man behind Caique Bordao Fotografia, he’s one of the lucky ones. All he has to do is step out of his front door and he’s there, in it. We talked to Caique Bordao Fotografia about his recent entry into photography, perfect spots, and more.
Kendra: You’ve said you haven’t been doing photography for long. When did you get started and what got you interested in the first place?
Caique Bordao: I started shooting a year ago. I always liked to photograph my girlfriend, our trips, everything we did I took my camera, but it was just for fun. Then one day she gave the idea of making a publication to divulge, and the publication viralized, causing me to leave my work at the time to work only with photography.
Kendra: When you think long term, what are you doing with photography 10 years from now?
Caique Bordao: I want to have my own photo studio, where I can also provide free courses for people in need. I also want to do a project so that I can wake up new looks and motivate people.
Kendra: What I love and appreciate about your photos are that they showcase such beautiful diversity. Are you often shooting friends or are these random people from around Brazil that you’re capturing with your camera?
Caique Bordao: I am very happy you like it. I do not usually choose people. Many nowadays come to me because they have seen my work on the internet, but whenever I can photograph friends, or even photograph people on the street to get natural.
Kendra: When it comes to photographing Brazil as a whole, do you ever head out into the wild that we’ve come to know due to television or do you stay in the city areas?
Caique Bordao: I love to photograph the sea, the surf; I love it. That’s something I do not publish much though as it is something I keep more to myself. When the photography is more focused on the commercial side the focus is totally on the city. Many people love the city center where I live. The center of São Paulo, La focuses both some parks and the more urban part.
Kendra: Speaking of, where would you suggest a tourist take the best selfie in your part of Brazil? A place that not all the other tourists would be.
Caique Bordao: A very classic place here is Avenida Paulista, where you can meet people from different social levels, and several countries, really are the biggest mix I’ve seen here.
Kendra: Is wedding photography something you gravitate towards or do you feel more comfortable with candids and portraits around the city?
Caique Bordao: I have had few opportunities to photograph weddings, this is a subject I have been working with more often. I always work in a whole, I always aim at the photography itself, regardless of what branch to photograph. Today I photograph of products for sales online, even photos of stars and so on. I always try to cover my work to achieve various tastes.
Kendra: Can you tell the readers what you have going on with your photography in the coming months?
Caique Bordao: I am focused on my social networks so that I can get closer to my audience. I’m also finishing a project on analog photography. Here in Brazil, it is very rare for people to shoot with film as they used to. We are trying to get back with this art, applying her in our day-to-day digital world. It was amazing to be able to participate with you.
