Whether it was Jodeci or Jamie Foxx, the trio that makes up CitiLimitz have never found themselves far from music. Growing up, this pair of twins and their cousin found their soul both in the mainstream and in the realm of Gospel music. We started the conversation there, and as we continued touched on their debut, “Say No More,” their upcoming tour in the new year hosted by Bow Wow, and more!
Kenda: Growing up with gospel routes isn’t out of the ordinary for singers who hail from the Southern region of the US, but for you guys, how do you feel having those gospel roots has helped you in the long run not only as vocalists, but as performers?
A.T: Singing Gospel music has helped us get in touch with our feelings. Gospel requires the soul to make people feel something. We sing from our soul and were taught that from an early age by singing Gospel music and singing it with our family.
Kenda: On top of that, you came from a large household, with over a dozen siblings?! I could barely handle a little brother. Do you think that has enhanced your ability to not only work with family but also in a group setting?
A.T: Yes, it helps a lot. As a group, we have to do everything together. Being in a large family, we’ve been taught to have a voting system. We use that system as a group when making decisions. Don’t get me wrong, we argue, but we’re brothers and we know how to get over things quickly as a family.
Dre & Marion in unison: Facts.
Kenda: Now let’s talk about your debut single, “Say No More” because this is the type of music that I miss hearing all over the radio. Music that is lively and fun, and done by a group because there are more than enough solo acts at the moment. Nevertheless, you’re coming out of the gate strong with your debut, so where do you hope to take your artistry with each new release after this? Will we get some ballads, or are we staying in this upbeat realm?
CitiLimitz: Thank you!
A.T: You’re gonna get all genres of music from Citi Limitz…R&B, Gospel, Pop, Hip Hop….
Marion: And OF COURSE ballads for the ladies!! We are a very versatile group and we ALL can sing.
Kenda: Atlanta is one of the biggest entertainment hubs in the world. With that, are there any venues you’re hoping to perform at that would allow you to check an item off your bucket list?
Marion: Madison Square Garden would be huge!
Dre: I’d love to perform at the Hawks’ Atlanta Stadium
A.T.: Detroit for me because I’m a BIG fan of The Clark Sisters and I’d love to meet them! Detroit is the home of Motown. A LOT of great OG SOUL singers came out of Detroit. I’d love to go there and see Motown.
Kenda: We talked about the gospel, but you also came up listening to Jamie Foxx. He’s often noted for his acting, but this might be the first I’ve heard his name dropped as a musical inspiration (although I’m sure there are plenty of artists out there who’d agree, just my first time hearing it). What about Foxx’s musical abilities made you a fan?
Dre: Jamie is versatile. He’s smooth with it and he does great runs. He’s actually a great vocalist! Waaaay underrated!
Kenda: Time for a side note – with November being right around the corner and a month where we give thanks, I’m asking everyone this…what is one album you’re grateful for, an album that inspired you to do what you’re currently doing right now as an artist?
Marion: I’d say Jodeci’s ‘Diary Of A Mad Band.’ Why? Because K-Ci is that dude!! I love the whole album and I sing along with K-Ci!
A.T.: Mine is ‘Purple Rain’ by Prince. Why? Because Prince is so versatile. That album is full of EVERYTHING! You can just press play and sing along. Prince is the GOAT.
Dre: Mine is ‘24k Magic’ by Bruno Mars because almost all of my favorite songs are on that album! Bruno is dope!
Kenda: Lastly, with “Say No More” out now, what can we expect as we finish out 2023 and head into 2024?
A.T: You can expect our debut video for “Say No More.” You may just hear a Christmas song or two for the holidays and of course, we’ll be coming to a city near you on THE SCREAM TOUR 2024, hosted by Bow Wow. We have a big year ahead of us! We can’t wait for y’all to hear what we have in store! CitiLimitz is on the way!!
