Still Dreaming with Ell Ivy

Still Dreaming with Ell Ivy

When we first met Ell Ivy seems so long ago. Alas, it was only last fall, but heck…everything that’s happened in the past few months seems like a world away from anything that happened in 2019. And while life as we know it is very different today than it was then, some things have still retained their greatness like Ell Ivy and her continuous push forward with her music that invites audiences into various soundscapes; from her dreamy intro to us to her latest, “Did You Love Me.” We talked about her newest single, coping, and what’s ahead for her.

Kendra: The last time we chatted was in the fall of 2019. You were doing what dreamers do and giving the world the first taste of what you had to offer musically. Now you’re back with another side of yourself. Is “Did You Love Me” a song that just came to you in recent months or something that had been marinating?

Ell Ivy: Yeah this is a different side of me definitely, both songs were written differently! I wrote “Did You Love Me” about a year ago and it was a hard song to write as it’s so emotional but it was definitely worth it.

Kendra: Because last time you noted how you were in a good headspace when you penned “Still Dreaming,” but we can definitely hear another part of your story with this new single. Will the next single present yet another side of who Ell Ivy is?

Ell Ivy: Yes! the next single is on a similar wavelength but it tells a different side of my experience with love, I’m really excited about the next one!

Kendra: “Did You Love Me” is a song almost everyone will be able to grasp onto because we’ve all been there with someone and asked the same thing. Other than music, what do you feel is the best way to move on after feeling like that?

Ell Ivy: For me, after a break-up like that, I would always turn to learning to love myself again. I feel that if you’ve lost a great love it takes something from you, but the only person who can heal that is you. The greatest love you can have is with yourself!

Kendra: Every day a new news story has the world feeling some type of way, but no matter what we continue to spin around the sun. As a creative mind, how do you find yourself coping with a reality everyone is facing?

Ell Ivy: Well, in this weird reality we are all living it’s definitely going to take some time to adjust to our new reality. I’ve found that taking care of my mental health has been the most important thing, trying not to put so much pressure on myself to get things done and be productive because everyone is in the same boat! I am excited to have the time to start creating more, but there’s no pressure – I’m going to let it come naturally!

Kendra: Usually, this is where I ask people what they have planned in the coming months but with the world in a strange place right now, plans aren’t as concrete as they typically are. You can go ahead and let us know what you have tentatively planned but can you also share a song that never fails to get you through when the world around you feels like a mess?

Ell Ivy: I’m still going to make music and I’ll be releasing something new in the next few months. Music is a great way to connect with people so I really want to be doing that especially now! I’ve been listening to a lot of ABBA recently and Fleetwood Mac, I always turn to the classics when feeling a little lost.
