With her debut set for this fall, Jaeden Zoe is hyped for all that’s to come. Which, so are we because if “What Is Love” is any indication of the future, it’s going to be a good one for this pop-R&B hybrid. We talked about the single, tell-tale signs that it is indeed love, and more with this star on the rise.
Kendra: It seems like you knew early on that you belonged on a stage, having performed in a dance troop that found you at the Apollo and recording in your teens. Did you even bother thinking of any other sort of career path or were you laser-focused on entertainment?
Jaeden Zoe: I actually wanted to get into film and directing. I have a great eye for photography and video. Every time I watch a movie, I can’t help but comment on how great the camera movement and visuals are.
Kendra: Well, I for one am glad you are singing because your latest, “What Is Love,” is just beautiful. I do a podcast all about crushes so it puts me in that romantic, butterflies in the stomach mindset. Which, speaking of crushes – do you remember the first time you ever had that sort of infatuated crush love with someone either at school or a celebrity?
Jaeden Zoe: Yes! The best-infatuated crushes are the ones from school when you can’t wait to wake up and get there to see someone you’ve been crushing on at lunch in the cafeteria. I remember just having that butterfly feeling with no care in the world about what anyone else thinks.
Kendra: Of course, the love we feel for a famous face doesn’t quite compare to the real thing, right? So for you, how do you personally know you’re in love? Do you have some tell-tale signs?
Jaeden Zoe: I know I’m in love when I feel free with someone when I don’t have any worries. I know when I let my guard down and become goofy and witty; I draw the line.
Kendra: In the grand scheme of things, love is one of the purest emotions we can feel, and, sadly, we have lawmakers who try to impose it from time to time. Being in Houston, a city in a state where the lawmakers can be a bit…extra, how do you feel about current political figures where you live coming for basic human rights?
Jaeden Zoe: I honestly don’t understand the reason for certain political parties to come for certain areas on human rights, especially “women’s rights.” I think there are way more things we need to fix as a state and/or country instead of worrying about “lady parts.”
Kendra: Let’s get back to the music and talk about what’s to come! “What is Love” is going to be on your debut album that’s out later this fall. Does this single sort of give us an overall taste of what’s to come, or is it part of a bigger buffet of themes we’ll get from the rest of the record?
Jaeden Zoe: The “What is Love” track is definitely part of a bigger buffet of themes that I have coming on the album. This new album is very versatile, fun, and what I call very “vibey.”
Kendra: Side note time – with it being a Back 2 School season, I’d love to know your favorite field trip or just school memory.
Jaeden Zoe: My favorite school memory is attending middle school, Ron Brown Academy, in my homeroom class every day before the bell rang. In order for us to leave at the end of the day, we would have to say a funny joke which I thought was pretty legendary because we had a few class clowns in there. I honestly don’t think anyone would believe how much of a big family we were in middle school. It was a sad day graduating but luckily, my best friend from my middle school is STILL my best friend today.
Kendra: Lastly, with “What is Love” out now and a new album on the way, what else is on the agenda as we head into fall…and soon 2023?
Jaeden Zoe: I have so much in store as far as interviews and many performances. I will be performing in cities that I’ve never been to, I’ll be doing way more radio and podcast interviews for everyone to tune in and tap into. So I’m pretty excited about that.
