Around the age of seven, Jason Hendrickson started to utilize his voice in his church choir. From there, he remembers “instantly” falling in love with music and that love has only grown over time. As has his passion for his faith. Since then he’s managed to marry the two. We talked about he followed his faith down an educational route, intertwined that with being an artist, and more like how he plans to hit that reset button and inspire others to do so.
Kendra: Do you feel like your studies have allowed you to get a better grasp moving forward as a Christian/Gospel artist?
Jason Hendrickson: My studies have allowed me to get a better grasp because I’ve been fortunate enough to study scholastically and have hands-on training traveling around the world as an artist and musician, and even currently being in school getting my Bachelors in Theology, it has caused me to get a better grip on the importance of just displaying the love of God to everyone that I meet as I travel all over the world. I’m blessed to meet people from different ethnic backgrounds and in different financial situations. My studies are just engulfing me with the compassion of Christ and that’s what I choose to give to people that I meet along my journey.
Kendra: You are a constant creative soul, and even getting into the culinary side of life as of late. With that, if you had to compare the overall sound of “My Longing” to a sweet dessert treat, which would it be and why?
Jason Hendrickson: If I had to compare the overall sound of my longing to a sweet dessert treat it would be homemade apple pie because it puts you in the mind of being at home in a place of safety and comfort, and that’s what the presence of God is to me. It’s a place of comfort and security, and it’s home. So I would compare the overall sound of my longing to a slice of homemade apple pie heated up with one scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.
Kendra: You also are tapped into the clothing business with All Things Apparel. How did that come about?
Jason Hendrickson: All Things Apparel came about because of a conflict I had with another leader and instead of responding negatively like the other individual did, I was led to create a t-shirt with a hashtag on it. That hashtag was #AllThings, and this comes from one of my favorite verses in the Bible found in the book of Romans the eighth chapter, and the 28th verse which says, “…and we know that all things work together for the good of them that love the Lord even to them that are called according to his purpose.”
So it was a constant reminder for me that regardless of what I may be encountering, good or bad, as long as I stay connected to my spiritual grounding and foundation all things will always work out for me somehow. So this is a clothing line that caters to women, men, and children and we have over 60 items on our online kiosk, available here.
Kendra: With it being March, I’d love to know what song you feel lucky enough to have heard in your lifetime? Like, what’s a song you’re thankful has existed while you’ve been here?
Jason Hendrickson: The song that I’m thankful that I’ve heard and was created by one of my favorite artists of all time Frank Sinatra, “I Did it My Way!” When it comes to an end for me I want that to be played because that is the truth of the matter for me. I have lived my life, and will continue to do things my way; no compromise, no second-guessing, full speed ahead doing it through the purpose that’s in my life. The favor that’s in my life comes by building great relationships and treating people correctly and honoring everyone that you meet.
Kendra: Lastly, with “My Longing” out now – what can fans both new and old be on the lookout for from you in the coming months?
Jason Hendrickson: I’m so excited to announce that my fans both old and new can be on the lookout for my brand new album that’s coming called ‘Reset.’ It has 12 amazing new tunes, and I even remixed a song from my very first album. It is beautiful music, live strings, amazing harmonies; music that’s going to make you move. So I pray that when you all hear it that you will understand that this pandemic that we all are living in right now is an opportunity for us all to hit the reset button, with ourselves and our families, and get it right this time! So be on the lookout for new music coming from yours truly Jason Hendrickson…Reset!
