We often think we get everything from our parents, but many times it’s our grandparents we take after, learn from and are inspired by. Just as my grandma passed on her appreciation for the smell of Staples, Louis Centioni‘s grandfather did the same with music. And from what Louis says, his wonderful world of Italian recipes. “I’m very confident in the kitchen because of him!” Of course, that confidence runs deeper than the kitchen as Louis Centioni’s music proves him to be one to watch in the music scene. His vocals showcase talent every which way, especially on his 2019 EP’s lead single, “Here I Go Again.” We walked about the single, his time at BRIT School, and what’s to come as we get deeper into the year.
Kendra: You’ve noted how attending BRIT School helped to get you to another level when it comes to discipline. What did you have problems with going in that BRIT helped you with?
Louis Centioni: I didn’t have any problems as such, it was more about opening my mind and musicianship in different ways that I hadn’t yet. For example constant collaborations, and an appreciation to new music styles that I hadn’t even thought to draw inspiration from.
Kendra: Whatever BRIT did, it shows because just one note into “Here I Go Again,” and I was taken aback. Your voice is stunning and the video is as well. I love seeing new places like that. Was that the original concept for the video?
Louis Centioni: Thank you for the compliments! I love how the video turned out too. Yes, I definitely set out to record the visuals in New York. I love the eclecticism and vibrancy of the city. I thought it was a great contrast to the song’s meaning.
Kendra: If you could redo that video in a city you’ve never been to before, which would it be and where would you go?
Louis Centioni: I would have to choose Cairo in Egypt. There’s something about all the history there that’d work well in setting the scene for “Here I Go Again”. I would also love to film in the pyramids.
Kendra: “Here I Go Again” is from your 2019 EP release. What can fans expect from that in terms of the mood it may leave them with after a listening session?
Louis Centioni: The other songs on the EP definitely get darker in mood and sound. The concept of the EP is about the journey lovers go through from meeting to dispersing and breaking away.
Kendra: With so many years ahead of you, what’s the next goal you have on your list that you hope to cross off in 2019?
Louis Centioni: In 2019 I definitely want to have my first headline show in New York that would be awesome!
Kendra: Other than that goal and the EP, what are your plans for the upcoming months?
Louis Centioni: For the upcoming months you can definitely expect more shows, another single release, and a supporting music video.
