His shoe didn’t fall off to be found by his soulmate after a night of dancing, but Matt LeGrand and Cinderella do share the strike of midnight. While her story almost ended there, it’s where this pop singer is just getting started. His latest single, “12:00 AM” will take listeners back to the days when TRL meant something and MTV just wasn’t a cascade of moms in their teens. Genuine pop music to be celebrated and elevated to the top of your playlists, “12:00 AM” is a major bop. We got to talk to Matt LeGrand about the music, what he does at that hour (turns out – we’re one and the same) and much more.
Kendra: A Chicago guy with some time spent in France, I have to start with asking about food because French cooking is synonymous with greatness but Chicago is a foodie city. Where would you rather spend a night out for dinner?
Matt LeGrand: I’d much rather spend a night in Paris while it’s raining! Don’t get me wrong. The food in Chicago is top notch. I’m very familiar with it though, and have you ever seen Paris in the rain? That right there is greatness and I’d want every little bit of it.
Kendra: Now that we’ve talked about the tasty treats, let’s talk about the audible ones – your music! “12:00 AM” serves up major ’90s boy band vibes. As a huge Backstreet Boys fan, that pleased my heart. Were you ever on that path to be part of an ensemble or did you always feel better as a solo artist?
Matt LeGrand: I actually started in pop-punk bands when I was in high school. It was really a lot of fun but tough at the same time. I wanted to make music my life and everyone pretty much laughs when that’s stated by a high schooler. I decided to go solo because everyone didn’t have the same dream as me and I wanted to go for it full on. Don’t get me wrong. Being part of a band is still a dream of mine that is in need of nurture and care in the future!
Kendra: So we have to ask, what are you most likely doing at 12:00 AM on a typical night?
Matt LeGrand: I’m in bed, to be honest. I have to wake up early and get right back to work! Though one might catch me at the local club sometimes hitting an 8 count. Honestly most nights consist of cooking and watching The Office.
Kendra: Will you be releasing more singles or putting out a full LP?
Matt LeGrand: Yes of course! More singles are right around the corner and you can expect an EP the beginning of November!
Kendra: You performed in New York City over the summer, but it wasn’t your first time there. What is it about NYC, especially for artists, that makes it so captivating?
Matt LeGrand: I feel like I’m part of the whole world when I’m there. To me, New York feels as if our entire planet was compressed onto an island. The diversity is what’s captivating. I am an observer and what a place it is to observe!
Kendra: What are your plans as we roll out of 2018 and into 2019?
Matt LeGrand: Touring!
